Health professionals at all levels have received little or no training in the care of the elderly, and many do not find working with them to be rewarding. There are no formal medical school courses in geriatrics and no opportunity to acquire expertise in geriatrics or diploma in the field in the Region

The Middle-East Academy for Medicine of Ageing-MEAMA had finished four sessions of the first course in 2003-2005, the second course in 2008-2010, the third course 2010-2012, and the fourth course 2012-2014. During the first course 20 participants were involved in various sessions and six participants finished the four sessions. As a result the MEAMA network has started with six participants and five countries from the region including Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Jordan and Bahrain. Currently a total of 55 finished four sessions of the course and graduated to become member of the Academy.
